About me

My name is Mr Kyara, Timothy, black-afrikan man, living in the United Kingdom. Married to my afrikan queen (Irene UK) and together we have two children, 3, 1 (so far). My educational background is Civil Engineering (BSc, MSc) and I have been working in the industry for the last 10 years.

I am writing this blog as I take Liberta Financial Freedom Challenge which came about when I visited Liberta blog. I have made my mind to take the challenge and never to look back. I refuse to be a slave for the rest of my life, I want to live and not just survive (barely making ends meet) while my dreams remains just that…yes, dreams.

This is the journal about my journey to freedom, I begin it overwhelmingly in debt (at a point considering IVA and bankruptcy filing), but I know I will get there-by God’s Grace and Mercy, I will get there one way or another.

Following inspirational words of Martin Luther Jr, if I can’t fly to my financial freedom then I will run, if I can’t run, then I will walk, if I can’t walk then I will crawl but by any means I will keep on moving towards my financial freedom and one day, before everyone’s eyes, I will get there, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run the walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

My Background
I graduated with BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, the Land of Kilimanjaro, 1998. Following my graduation I worked for one year in Tanzania then went to work in Botswana till 2003 when I relocated to the United Kingdom.

I was so enthused when I was offered a job as junior civil/structural engineer when I came to England, in my mind I thought all my financial worries will be history (dreamy fallacy that many people from developing countries have about living and working in developed country).

In the space of living and working in England for six years, I managed to support my wife do her MA and myself through MSc part-time, Coventry University. Meanwhile, I graciously managed to accrue overwhelmingly huge amount of debts…and what do I have to show for it? my wife’s MA, my MSc and a mortgage.

For the last four years, I have been working so hard just to make the ends meet; paying off my mortgage and those whom I owe (personal loans and credit cards). This, unfortunately, has left me with no disposable income or savings at hand…entities which are necessary if I am to change my future.

The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” H. L. Mencken, yes, I wanted safety-security of employment. I soon realized that employment offers a false sense of security for as soon as you start becoming a liability to your employer-you will be shown the door…and that’s exactly what happened to me when ‘credit crunch’ hit hard in the United Kingdom.

Currently I am working part time for Coventry University whilst pursuing some research studies towards my PhD. Meanwhile my land-line and mobile has become a hot-line to my creditors. Now I understand that it is indeed true that when you are in financial crisis, your creditors will stick closer to you than your brother :-)

  1. Hi Pastor Tim,
I enjoyed reading your bio. I guess a true reflection of oneself is what is lacking in today`s society. While I was about to concede and accept this statement as a common problem to all black man-kinds, I came across this!
By not concealing your financial stress, you are somehow liberating others who might otherwise mistaken your charms and well-dressed sense for a millionaire lol There are lessons to absorb from this. Take care and God bless you.

  4. Kyara, my brother, I am happy to have had time to pass through your blogg a bit more slowly and seriously. I hope you happen to remember me (PETER BRIAN, who wanted to be part of the 12 but later recommended GEOFREY THOBIAS - his inner circle friend to join the programme). I am following you on fb and have seen such powerful initiatives for youth and dreamers. Due to time and space, I have not been able to come. But I am kept abreast by Geofrey Thobias. GOD Bless you. I come to Dar often (relatively, but rarely absolutely) and would like to have an audience with you.
