Generational Thinking

When I look at my father and my father's father, I see many choices that they made which, has huge impact on my life today. My great great grandfather decided to move from South – West Kenya to North – Eastern Tanzania, which essentially translated for me (160 years later) being a proud Chagga from Tanzanian as opposed to a Taita from Kenya. Sometimes I wonder what my life and my children's life would have turned out to be had he (great great grand father) not made that decision.

My father was working as a missionary in Nakuru Kenya, back in 1976 he decided to relocate to Dar Es Salaam Tanzania; the result, I grew up in Dar – made friends I made, went to schools I went, had experience I had and here I am today . . . my childhood and consequently my children's childhood came down from my father's choice to raise us up in Dar, Tanzania.

Today, we have many people, particularly men, who make life changing decisions in an impulse not knowing it will remain in the family for generations to come – be it positive or negative.

What decision are you making today which will have a significant impact in your life and that of the generations to come. Think about a business you are thinking to start, a company you are building or about to build, a school, college or family.

Critically I think the most important decision which you need to make are 1. Profession, 2. Career, 3. Life Partner, 4. Geographical Location to live, 5. Association|Affiliates...in light to YOUR CONTRIBUTION to the Society.

I would love for EVERY person to do at least one thing in a lifetime that will remain a memorial to the generations to come. Something that will cause the next generation to say, we are happy this person went before us and paved the way for us.

But here you are, thinking only about your car, your job, your house, your wife and your childrenshame on you if you die having only provided for just those!

What are you going to be, do and have as a seed for generations to come?

Are You Common Man?

Recently, opposition party parliamentarians said, "the current budget will create uncommon hardship to a common man". I began to think, if this is true, then should we change the budget or change the common man? Which one is possible, easier or sustainable – changing the budget or change the common man? Who is this common man?

Who is a common man?
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a common man (commoner) as, "person lacking class or rank distinction or special attributes". Other dictionaries defines a commoner as "a person of average means and life". Another definitions, I am told is, "a person with no significant contribution to the society".

I think I like best the definition that placed a common man as a man of average means and life. Why would a person remain common if being that brings nothing but pain and suffering?

I believe it is because – this person has chosen to remain average:
-Average Thoughts: Self, Survival, Me, Myself, My Family
-Average Dreams: Enough resources to live average life
-Average Learning: Just enough to be able to do my work
-Average Actions: The bare necessary to get by
-Average Results: Predicated by the action

Are Common men born or made?
If you take a commoner being a person with average life – leading to little or no significant contribution to the society, then I believe it is safe to say that some people are born common (though they don't have to die common) and some become common by virtue of their actions or lack thereof.

You can substitute the word common with poor and you will still be describing the action of a common man. The illustration below depicts 10 things that common (average)[poor] people do. Do any of these and you can guarantee your stay in commoner status.

How do you defect from being common?
How do you defect from the commoner status? Follow the advice of Steve Harvey, he said, "watch what poor (common) people do and swear not to do it, ever"

You can (we ought to) create a plan (begin with a vision, dream) followed by strategy to navigate from commoner status to uncommon status.

In addition to NOT doing what common (poor) people do, here is what you will need to BE and DO if you will get a transfer from commoner world to un-common men island:

1. You will need to have un-common DREAM,
2. You will need to have un-common FAITH,
3. You will need to have un-common MENTOR,
4. You will need to have un-common ACTIONS, and,
5. You will need to have un-common PERSISTENCE.

SEE you at the Unc-common men Island.
