Wrong Turns in Life: When am I Likely to Make them?

|| CAN I KNOW WHEN-WHERE I'M MORE LIKELY TO MAKE A WRONG TURN IN LIFE? ||

PART 2: What should I look out for?
In Part I, , we discussed the concept of life paths; that it does not matter how gifted and connected you are, if you don't learn to take right turn – follow the path meant for you – you will fail in life. Furthermore, it is easy to choose good from bad but what do you do when you have to choose one good from another?

It is important to note that there are situations and environment in which we are more likely to make wrong turns. Avoiding these situations, conditions and environment increases the chances of not taking the wrong turns and hence being successful and prosperous in life.

ONE: Ignoring the spirit you:
You are more likely to take a wrong turns and wonder into path not yours when you ignore your spiritual part. "those who will not go within will go without" goes the old adage. We are spiritual beings created for a purpose and for appointed 'time' miss that and miss out.

We need to understand that we are spirit being, have a soul (mind) and live in the body. Anytime we ignore our true nature as spirit being, we place ourselves vulnerable to wrong spiritual influence. We also need to be attuned to our maker – God – and we do it in prayer and meditating on what He has to says about us and our day, season, lifetime.

Prayerlessness: We are more likely to take wrong turn if we fail to communicate with our maker. Prayer is one of the ways we allow the divine to lead us into the path that is meant for us. Prayer is a two way communication i.e. you speak to God and allow Him to speak back to you and guide you. He says He will guide us and show us THE PATH to take as He holds our hands (Psalms 32:8).

How does He do it?
i. Inner knower – listen to the small voice within nudging you to dream, plan, act...
ii. Peace of Mindlack of peace is a sign to either stop or start doing something…
iii. Passion – listen to your tears, anger, frustration, hate, joy…they speak...

Wordlessness: When we don't read His word which is His WILL (testament, last word) we miss the wisdom which is crucial in making sound decisions in life. The one who created us knows more about us than we know about ourselves. Every product you buy comes with instruction manual, if you don't read/consult the manual, you are more likely to to abuse and destroy the product. God's words – the bible – is our instruction manual…ignore it at your own peril.

TWO: When we let Emotions get its way:
We are more likely to take a wrong turn when we let pleasure, pride, anger, hatred and the like take priority over good judgement. Emotions are good but they need to be kept in check and balance.

God has given us emotions so that they speak to us about what we perceive to be wrong, but if we misjudge the situation and react badly, it costs us heavily.

Say you hate poverty with a passion, what do you do about it…steal from the rich and give to the poor? Steal from your employer to eradicate poverty in your family? OR discover that your passion speaks that you have to consult the manual to see how you can best solve poverty in your family, community and the world like Mama Theresa?

THREE: Wrong Crowd:
"Companion of the Fools will be destroyed" said King Solomon (Proverbs 13:20b) and the Professor of Mosaic Law, Torati/Torah, Apostle Paul, said, "Bad company corrupts good morals" (I Corinthians 15:33) and you must have heard the phrase "guilty by association". The reference I like most is what King David says in Psalms 1:1-3, "Blessed is the a man who walks not in the COUNSEL of the UNGODLY nor SEAT IN the seats of SCORNFUL..." KJV. Blessed means happy, fortunate, to be envied, prosperous (AMP).

Thus blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied, prosperous) is a man who does not take counsel from people who don't fear (have reverence to) God; he does not kill time with people who are aimless, scornful and who don't take life seriously.

YOU GOT to PICK your entourage, people you allow close to you, people you share your dreams, fear, prayer, time and money. Qualify people you accept into your inner circle, not everyone is worthy of your time and space – regardless of whether they are blood relatives or not.

You can read my article on how to pick friends from:

By all means avoid the following People:
-who abuse your time with gossips, nonsense, rumours,
-who are without Plans, Future and Passion, they will trivialize yours,
-who belittle you and or your dreams, will talk you out of dreams
-magnify your demons and obstacles, make you feel insignificant and small
-who only see your weakness and failure in life and offer no help or encouragement
*** Just to mention a few, but you can see the trend ***

Wrong Turns in Life: Intro - where do we Part?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO KNOW WHEN OR WHERE WE TOOK A WRONG TURN IN LIFE?

PART 1: Introduction
I came back home, Tanzania, after being away for nearly 12 years; naturally I began to look for 'old' friends, enquired of their whereabouts and eventually met some of them. I soon realized that some have done extremely well for themselves, some extremely bad and a whole bunch in-between, not so good not so bad.

I began to wonder what made the distinction – could it be IQ, destiny (divine predestination), good/bad luck, starting off from dis/advantaged position?

What is it that caused one colleague to become a well-off international businessman and the other end up killed by mob justice after he was caught stealing used clothes? We all sat under the same classroom, same teachers, more or less similar background and parenting? Where did we part – some to excellence and some to mediocrity, failure and obscurity?

I believe it has something to do with the opportunities that we either take or don't take in life; I am not, by all means, suggesting that we should all have same results in life but I am persuaded that we all have the potential to become great and successful in whatever we are meant to do in life…and I don't use the term 'meant to do' lightly.

The Most wise King of Israel said, "the race is not to the swift, nor the battle for the strong nor riches to the brilliant but time and chance is given to them all…", Eccl 9:11 KJV italics and emphasis mine.

We all get 'time' and 'opportunity' given freely to us…the difference is in how we use the time and opportunities at our disposal.  It all lies in being able to discover what we are meant to do and do it at the time we were meant to do them. . .timing is everything.

While others wasted time and opportunities that lingered freely around them, the group that did very well maximised every moment (time and opportunity) that life presented. The group in-between settled for average, mediocre venture while the previous thought and ventured big.

It is not enough to know WHAT one is meant to do, you have to know HOW you are meant to do it and equally important WHEN. Take time to study YOUR What, How and When and you will do well no matter what life present to you as setbacks and challenges.

In Tanzania grapes are grown in Dodoma – where our sweet and proudly Tanzania produce Dodoma Wine is made, it has something to do with geographical climate of the area, grow them anywhere else in Tanzania and you waste your resources. But even in Dodoma, unless you want to employ more resources for irrigation etc, you will have to know when to put the seed on the ground, prune produce at the right time and pick them at the right moment otherwise they will not be suitable for wine making.

If one owns a farm in Dodoma, one has the opportunity to grow grapes; when the right climate comes another opportunity is presented, time to prune is another opportunity to maximise produce. All these opportunities present themselves to farmer in Dodoma for him to maximise harvest and thus success as a farmer.

I am told that Dodoma land is also suitable for peanuts farming; and here is a kicker, one acre of grapes yields almost 50 times in profit compared to peanuts. However, most farmers in Dodoma ventures in peanuts, WHY?
1. This is what they know best,
2. It costs less in initial investment and,
3. Peanuts farming has a low risk of loss of failure should the weather fail.

If you were a humble farmer with two acres of land in Dodoma, Tanzania with little or no financial capital…which path would you take? Peanuts or Grapes? Why?

Think of every opportunity as a path (pathway), footpath that takes you from one place in life to another. Every path leads to a destination; the challenge is in knowing which path (opportunity) to take and when to take it.

You choose a path by DECISIONS you make (or don't make) in life. Every day we make small decisions that eventually compounds to a destination. Think of something as trivial as the choice of meal, drink, smoke, friend etc they all lead DOWN to a path…but is this a path you are meant to TREAD?

I know a lot of people who understand the need to know which path to take they visit s̩ances, witch doctors, fortune tellers, prophets, fast and pray in order to get 'wisdom' on which path will lead them to health, happiness, wealth and long Рgood life.

If you take a wrong turn into a path not 'meant' for you, you will pay a high price to achieve the same result as a person who took the right turn. You can grow grapes in Dodoma out of season, but you will have to pay for irrigation likewise you could get same profit farming peanuts as grapes in Dodoma but you will have to cultivate bigger area.

I am persuaded that the three top most critical paths that needs care and insight on their hows and whens prior to taking them are career choice, life partner and geographical location (where you live).

Others within these major choices are:
v  Career: self-employed, employed, entrepreneur or combination?
v  Partner: who to marry and when…timing is as important as the choice itself!
v  Location: when, which city to live and work in, which virtual city to trade in

*Next, Part 2: WHEN are you more likely to take wrong turn?*

Breaking Un-wanted FAMILY TIES

“…Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you…” Luke 10:19 AMP (italics and emphasis mine)

Nature or Nurture?
It is important to note that we have inherited from our ancestors not just nature (DNA/genes) and nurture (environment) but also hosts of spirits in our lineage which will not just simply go away as a result of our new birth…of course some unclean spirits flee at the very mention of the name of the Lord, others you have to cast them out (exercise authority) and yet others Jesus said they will not leave that easily – fasting and prayers is needed to cast them out (Mark 9:25-30).

The debate regarding what influence who we are today and how far we will go in life (persona-value system) whether it is nature (heredity—birth) or nurture(environment—upbringing) still lingers on. Scientists want to know whether serial killers, arsonists, people like Idd Amin, Adolf Hitler were born that way or nurtured that way

What is the deciding factor, is it your DNA (genes) or the environment which one grows up under. Some say is the genes and yet the majority say it is the environment that decides our psyche to large extent and Christians argue all evil traits and bodily dis-order and dis-eases are demonic.

It is important to find out whether what troubles you from your predecessors is nature, nurture or spiritual because freedom from one is not necessarily obtained in the same way as from the other. Perhaps typical examples from each category will help:

Nature: we inherit from our parents genes which dictate things like colour of skin, height, hair texture and length, facial features, IQ, some genetically transmitted diseases such as heart diseases, asthma, some forms of cancer, some genetic disorder etc FREEDOM: These can be treated naturally – physicians, doctors – or spiritually i.e. prayer of faith.

Nurture: this is what we inherit (pick up) through environment that we grow up under the authority of our guardians/parents and community…generally it is a mind-set, belief and value system which to large extent determine who we believe into being. FREEDOM: These are treated naturally – teachings and counselling. Praying over this bondage will only free one but to walk out of cell…one has to study, learn and meditate on the right 'words' to gain total freedom.

Sspirit: here I am talking about resident family spirits (demons, vikoba vya ukoo) which pass on within the family lineage. When a family member dies, demons/spirits do not wonder away or live in the dead body, they find the next in the family line and inhabit them. FREEDOM: These have to be treated spiritually having established the root and get deliverance by faith in the finished work of Jesus at Calvary.

Symptoms
The effect of unwanted family ties is that it restricts one from going further than the chains allows and also restrict – inhibit the speed of achievements due to overburden from the "chains". When one is under the influence of unwanted family ties, no matter how hard one tries, he or she always find oneself limited by what one can be, do or have to a certain degree, some more than others.

One may be bright, intelligent, ambitious yet no matter how hard he she tries, it is like a heavenly hammer comes ''whaaack'' and stop him her right on the track and pull that poor individual right back to square one – it could be business, relationship, family building, career etc

The following could be traced to either nurture and/or resident family spirit:
having children outside wedlock,                     poverty and failure pattern
substance abuse – drugs and alcohol,             broken relationships over and over
un-controllable anger (wrath)                           low self-esteem regardless of achievements

The following could be traced to nature and/or resident family spirit:
barrenness,                          some illnesses and diseases
depression,                          ◆backwardness
mental illness                       ◆demonic attacks, nightmares
premature deaths                  ◆??

How do we break unwanted family ties?
It is important to note that we are NOT under the curse as a result of other people's doing but we suffer the effects (consequences) of their doing AND we can be free in the name of Jesus Christ. Usually these unwanted family ties are transmitted by WORDS (spoken, written or pronounced) and in the same manner they can be cancelled and stopped.

ONE: Find out if you are dealing with nature, nurture or resident family spirit – the Holy Spirit is eager and happy to work with you on this matter; ask Him and He shall reveal it to you. More often than not what we inherited by nurture will not change by prayer and fasting alone. Talk to your local minister – Pastor, Head of Cell Group, Spiritual Mentor

TWO: If you are dealing with resident family spirit, start by confessing all known sins you (and or your ancestors) have committed against God. Forgive all those who have wronged you or your ancestors and also forgive yourself of your shortcomings. You are not guilty of your ancestors' sin but you suffer the consequence of their doing, set yourself apart from them by asking forgiveness on their behalf…determining never to sin as they did.

THREE: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you objects and WORDS spoken against you and/or your family. Destroy every physical objects related to occult and/or idolatry, family heirloom linked to voodoo, witchcraft and (matambiko). Every statements and spells spoken over you, your family and clan, they have to be cancelled by specific Rhema word from God spoken openly and boldly including negative words that you have spoken against yourself.

FOUR: Having power and exercising it are two different things, Luke 10:19 Jesus declares that "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you" KJV; also He says we have been given power (authority, right, mandate) to be children of the most high God (John 1:12). We exercise this power by speaking, remember the centurion who surprised Jesus of his understanding that when one is in authority he/she exercise it by ''issuing commands – orders'' (Mat 8:7-10). SPEAK God's RHEMA words over your circumstance…remember: don't say what you don't want, say what you want (big difference) eg if you are barren, don't say "I am not barren in Jesus Name" Say, "The blessings of Abraham are on me, gentile in Christ, I shall nurse my own children and play with my grandchildren in Jesus Name"

Exercise your authority by speaking faith filled words over your circumstances and over what you desire in your life DAILY. Continue to confess daily of your freedom, provision and possession. Following scriptures can be useful: Gal 3:13,14; Eph 1:7; Col 1:12-14 and Luke 10:19.

Out of Body Self-Audit

If it is true that we don't get wealthy (or poor) by accident but by what we do or don't do, and it is, then it stands to reason that we owe it to ourselves to 'audit' and scrutinize what we do. If time is money, and it is, shouldn't we be conscious of where the money (time) placed in our care goes to?

Dr Mike Murdock said ''people who have what you don't, they know and do what you don't''. This is why I am obsessed with knowing what I don't know and need to know for I don't NEED to know everything. We live in a knowledge era, everything at finger tip; but we don't need to know everything…only what matters to us at a given time.

Give yourself an out of body experience, divorce your soul from your body and audit for SEVEN DAYS what you do and how long you do it daily from sunrise to sunset. Pretend you are an independent consultant auditing what the other you is doing and produce a report.

Below is my typical week arranged in order of percentage of largest time spent:

Write down every little detail of what you do trivialize nothing…they don't say the devil is in the details for nothing…write down EVERYTHING including time spent in the rest room, eating, watching telly, sleeping, on the phone texting, time on the phone talking, time of facebook socializing or investing etc

At the end of the auditing, study the report objectively and ask yourself these questions:
1. Is there anything I am doing that I should stop immediately?
2. Is there anything I am doing that I need to give more time and attention?
3. Is there anything I need to do that I don't do now? what is it costing me?
4. Where does most of my time go? is this where they should go?
5. Where does most of my 'productive hours' go? is this where they should go?
6. If I was to advise the person whose report I am reading, what will I say?

If life is a journey, and it is, then to be able to answer the questions above adequately, you need to understand that YOUR LIFE is also a GIFT, not to you, to someone—in a form of what you have that they need—SERVICE. You need to DISCOVER what kind/sort of a gift you are and to whom are this gift is addressed.

Taking your life as a gift and a journey, you should know the following before you attempt to answer questions above after self-audit experience:
1. Your Destinationdream, aspiration, purpose in life: what satisfies you most in serving others? what would like to be remembered as?
2. WRITE down what you consider to be your lifetime achievement, #1 above: break it down to 20yrs, 10yrs, 5yrs, 3yrs, 2yrs, 1yr, monthly & daily.
3. WRITE down a daily to do list broken down as a result of #2 above: then arranged the list in order of priority/importance, work on the list in this order.
4. What you need to BE and HAVE to get to your destination: you are a gift that needs costant improving and other assets to function well.
5. PUT ON an attitude of a winner, that's right it is a garment to be worn: DECIDE TODAY that you can do anything you put your mind to and guess what, YES you CAN.

Remember, a successful life is one bent on knowing and pursuing a worthwhile dream by serving others in the process. How we SPEND time, that's right time is spent just like money, will separate us.

Time is money,                                          Time waits for no man,
Time should be invested not wasted,         Time should be made not waited,
Time is a priceless commodity,                  Time is given to everyone equally

Where do you spend most of your valuable time on earth? Life is not just spent, it is invested, where you invest so shall you earn your dividends, be they good or bad!

Mindset: a World of Difference

If you took all the wealth from the wealthy and 'give' it to the poor, come back in a year to check the score; I can guarantee with 90+ percentage certainty that you will find the poor have traded all the wealth to regain their poverty and the wealthy, who lost their wealth, have traded their lack for their original wealth, some exceeding where they were before.

I see you have doubt, let me prove it to you; I follow the story of average people who win large sums of money in lottery. Two principles comes to mind, ONE: easy comes, easy go and TWO: if you didn't have the capacity to earn it, you won't have the capacity to keep it.

Read these few headlines from the UK:
“…A couple from the West Midlands have been declared bankrupt – four years after scooping more than a £250,000 on the National Lottery…The pair were declared bankrupt at Wolverhampton County Court this month with over a £19,000 debt allegedly owed to Marston Brewery…”[1]

“…A hospital porter who scooped £10million on the Lotto is having his home repossessed after blowing the lot. John McGuinness, 44, landed the huge jackpot in 1996 - but now OWES £2.1million. And with no prospect of him paying it back, the bank has won a repossession order for his £500,000 mansion, the sole asset left from his win…”[2]

I know what you are thinking, "if I get even just half of what they had, I would be very careful how I spend and invest it" Right? WRONG!!!…the truth of the matter is, “…Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much…”[3] hence the premise that if we take care of the pennies, the pound will take care of themselves.
People don't get wealthy by accident neither do people get poor by accident; it is in what we do or don't do. But what we do/or don't do is determined by our mindset. Mindset is a make-up of belief system, belief system determines what one thinks and does and consequently ones destiny. Belief system is made up of simple faith one picks over the years through what we hear, see, feel, meditate upon and experience be it positive or negative.

Jesus Christ once told a fascinating story of a man who needed to trade his negative belief and fear for positive mindset and faith (in people and business world). He said a wealthy master wanted to travel on business and left Five Talent[4] to one servant, Three to another and One to the third (notice He said, "each was given according to their ability").
When the master came back later that year he demanded the three servants to give account for what they have done with what he entrusted them with. The one who had five traded well and had five more as profit, likewise the one with three had three more. The one with one talent said "I was afraid" and so ''I hid'' what was in my power to invest and he returned the capitial with no profit. His master was angry and said, "the least you could have done was to put that talent in the bank as fixed deposit and gain interest on the capital" (Mattew 25:14-30)
So many people are like the servant with one talent, out of fear (negative belief, mindset), ignorance and financial illiteracy, they refrain from investing and trading the little that they have.

In my previous article, I wrote about why school top graders don't make it to be top earners; the bottom line is in mindset i.e. what we believe deep down inside about money, people, business world etc determines what we do, be and have.

People with poverty mindset have acquired a tendency to trade their assets for liabilities while their counterpart wealthy folks have learnt to trade their liabilities for assets through and through. Think about this, if I gave you One Million right now, what will you do with it? write down the very first thought that came into your mind…you may want to read my article Poverty is a Mindset.

You can begin your journey by LEARNing To TRADE:
2Financial Illiteracy for Literacy (knowing what counts to be a better and smarter earner)
2Ignorance for Knowledge (about money, business world, politics whatever you're into…)
2Fear for Faith (fear of failure, making mistakes, unknown, risks )
2Timid for Boldness (guts to act when you know the time is right)
2Passiveness for Proactiveness (don't wait for luck, make it happen for you)
2Sickness for Health (we need to be spiritually, mentally and physically healthy)
2Negative Mental Attitide for Positive one (your attitude will determine your atltitude in life)
2Dishonesty for Integrity (you will never enjoy/keep what you earn through deceit)
2Wrong company for the Right one (your network will determine your networth)
2Arrogance for self-confidence (it's a thin line between the two tho')

Illiteracy, ignorance, fear, timidity, passiveness all these, and the like, are liabilities; if you possess any of these tendencies wake up and trade them for their counterpart assets. it all begins in the mind–set before it can manifest in the flesh.

LEARN to trade your LIABILITIES for ASSETS; remember, "There are no hopeless people, only people who think hopelessly" (Windred Newman)
